The 1909-1982 penny which is 95% copper is worth $0.0213 at the current $3.23 per pound price of copper.
The 1982-2011 penny which is 97.5% zinc is worth $0.0050 at the current $0.86 per pound price of zinc.
Four "new" pennies do not match the value of one "old" penny. Once again, the US coinage has been debased.
